Ruminant

By , About.com Guide

Definition:

A ruminant is a cud-chewing mammal. Ruminants differ from other mammals in that they have a four-compartment stomach. The first compartment, or chamber, of a ruminant's stomach is called the rumen, which serves as a food storage system of sorts.

Ruminant livestock, such as cattle, sheep, buffalo and goats can be raised organically.
