Definition:
Organic handlers help move products and supplies though the organic industry supply chain. A handler is anyone who handles, sells or packages organic agricultural products
Also Known As:
Producer, distributor, marketing company, packer, shipper, broker
Examples:
Understanding the organic handlers' job is easiest if you imagine a food path:
- Carrots are grown on the farm by an organic farmer.
- The carrots are passed from farmer to a handler, such as a frozen food manufacturer. The food manufacturer freezes and packages the carrots.
- After packaging, the manufacturer may pass the carrots to a second handler, such as a frozen food distributor who then sells the final product to a retailer.
