Recently, USDA launched its Organic Literacy Initiative. This new effort on USDA's part includes some excellent self-paced training modules, outreach materials and a guide to organic and organic-related USDA programs.

If you're considering transitioning to organic or are in the middle of writing your OSP, these materials can help a lot as they can offer you a clearer understanding about organic certification.

After delving into what organic is in general, the most logical next step is to learn more about your specific area be it crops, livestock, or processed products - luckily, there are resources for this as well. The National Organic Program (NOP) has partnered with the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) to provide the following detailed guides for organic businesses:
