The National Organic Program (NOP) recently published a final rule which renewed the use of specified allowed or prohibited substances in organic agriculture. Specifically, this rule was regarding colors used in organic foods, but the list of the 19 colors was mistakenly omitted when NOP released the first rule, so they've updated it.
This rule clarifies how one may use colors in organic processed food products and notes that if the organic form is not commercially available, the USDA organic regulations allow the use of 19 non-organic colors that meet specific criteria.
