As of this week, Brightwood, VA based EcoTulips became the first supplier of organic flower bulbs in the United States. The company, co-owned by Jeroen and Keriann Koeman, was certified by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) and the owners estimate increased expansion as more and more consumers and retailers are seeking out organic options across the board, flowers included.
In 2011 the company introduced their bulbs into 40 Whole Foods Market's in the Mid-Atlantic and this year will be adding additional wholesale partners such as retail stores and garden centers. Consumers also may visit the farm, picking their own tulips or can even hang out and enjoy the 3rd annual Organic Tulip Festival, kicking off this month.
Also new is the company's "Bee Happy" bulb mix made up of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, botanical tulips, crocus, and grape hyacinths, available for both wholesale and retail sales. Visit EcoTulips to learn more about both bulbs and flowers for individuals or organic retailers.
