Dean Sparks' organic New York State company, NYFoods, is already guilty of helping organic farmers a way to build a viable organic farming career. His company supplies nearly 30 stores throughout his region with organic eggs, cheese, butter and milk, however just supporting organics wasn't enough for Sparks - he wants to help support people in his community as well.
To help make a positive difference, Sparks decided that NYFoods should try giving away a dozen organic eggs for every dozen sold. It's an excellent PR idea and helps the community, but can it work? Organic eggs are one of the more expensive organic food items, when compared with conventional. Typically organic eggs run from at least $3 per dozen, although $3.00 per dozen is extremely low end pricing.
How Sparks is making it work is as follows: NYFoods sells their largest eggs for premium end prices at places like Whole Foods. However, hens lay eggs of all sizes, so NYFoods is free to give away the smaller, less price-fetching eggs to the community.
This is one of those organic farm promotional ideas at its finest. Not only do free eggs help local community members in need of nutritious food, but this gains the company, as well as organics in general, some wider recognition. Why not try implementing a similar plan at your place of business...
